Jin is a middle-school boy living alone and always looked after by his childhood friend, Tsugumi. He made a wood carving of a woman he saw in the temple grounds as a child. Unknown to him, the wood is the trunk of one of the holy trees that protects the land. The wood statue bursts in front of Jin revealing the land goddess Nagi. His life became a rollercoaster ride of misundestandings and flared emotions.
As Nagi's tree and shrine was relocated due to land reuse, her powers began to wane because she needs the devotion and faith of her followers to keep her strength and existence. She then comes up with the idea to be an 'idol', which only adds to Jin's problems.
Although this is a comedy, with a touch of love triangle (square) -ish situation to it, it has a serious, melodramatic ending, filled with the search for their own true self.
The animation is very well made, like a fusion of 'Akira' and 'Toki wo Kakeru no Shoujo'. And the soundtrack is very catchy.
I easily became a fan of the series, but it left a lot of things unanswered and unresolved. I hope this means it would lead to a second season.
